| SMALL CHARITIES CAR DRAW 2011 |
| From the 14th to the 26th of August, Sophie Bowman and Jack Caine will be walking 200 miles, from one side of the country to the other. The coast to coast walk takes in some amazing scenery, but is also very tough, with climbs of over 2000ft and the challenge of keeping up momentum on the trail. Sophie said:- Whatever the weather, we will be journeying across the country and camping all the way, carrying our 20kg bags (including tents and equipment) starting at St Bees Head and walking for twelve days, all the way to Robin Hood's Bay. We have chosen to do this walk to raise money for Bahay ng Pag-Asa, the House of Hope in the northern Philippines. Bahay ng Pag-Asa is a very small charity that makes a very big difference. It has transformed the lives of many Filipino children, provided essential health-care for those in desperate need and acted as an advocate for those whose voices have gone unheard. In 2006, I travelled to the Philippines and stayed at the House of Hope for four weeks, becoming part of the family. Spending time in the Philippines, visiting hospitals and getting to know the people that have benefited from the work of Bahay ng Pag-Asa was a truly eye-opening and incredible experience. Just a few pounds can make an incredible difference to the lives of people and the communities they live in. Any amount that you can give will be truly appreciated by Bahay ng Pag-Asa, and for Jack and I every penny contributed will make the 200 miles seem a bit shorter! Sophie Bowman 10th July 2011 |
